All About Doug Commette

Doug Commette stands out as a visionary leader and innovator in the realm of digital marketing and business development. Doug Commette's Accomplishments

Doug Commette embarked on his remarkable career journey in 1989 when he joined Gusmer Corporation as Marketing Manager. His successes, dedication and expertise led him to several leadership positions until become the President of Gusmer Corporation in January 1998, operating the world's largest supplier of polyurethane foam and polyurea spray equipment.

Throughout his tenure at Gusmer, Doug was a driving force in the development and launch of numerous successful equipment products still widely used today, including the H-20/35, GX-8, GAP Spray Guns, and the Mobile Spray Rig and Trailer division.

In 1995 the Gusmer Machinery Group was established and Doug was appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing where he planned, directed and managed worldwide sales, marketing, advertising and promotional activities for all subsidiaries. Responsible for worldwide sales of over $100,000,000 and an operational budget in excess of $5,000,000.  Participated on a staff of four executives that handled all strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and tactical management issues for all subsidiaries.

Doug Commette's influence extended beyond the company as he actively participated in industry trade associations such as the American Plastics Council's Alliance for Polyurethanes Industry (API) and the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) divisions. He not only served on the SPFA's Management Committee, but was also appointed Chairman for the CPI's 1999 Polyurethanes Conference Planning Committee. Under his leadership, the conference achieved one of its highest attendance rates in history.

Additionally, Doug played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Polyurea Development Association's (PDA) Board of Directors, where he served as the Chairman of PDA's Marketing Committee. He co-developed the PDA's esteemed 4-day hands-on spray applicator course, co-instructing it across the United States for several years.

In June 2001, Doug took a bold step in his career by resigning as President of Gusmer Corporation to establish Digital Intent, Inc., a TV and video production company. Over the years, he has achieved recognition and acclaim in the world of film and video production, winning several film festival awards for editing and production. These skill sets and experiences are used today more than ever with the emerging popularity in content marketing and social media promotion. 

In 2001, Doug Commette founded SprayFoam.com , the SPF industry's largest business networking and Q&A website. This platform still in use today has welcomed tens of millions of visitors from virtually every country in the world. Doug also launched Polyurea.com which rapidly followed the same model and became the Global internet destination for everything polyurea.

Soon thereafter, Doug expanded his entrepreneurial endeavors by founding Spray Foam Insulation & Roofing Magazine, a pioneering 100% digital publication for the spray foam industry. With just two issues released, the magazine rapidly attracted over 8,800 readers from 82 countries, with nearly 16% accessing content through mobile apps on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

In 2012 Doug sold Polyurea.com and his domain portfolio to VersaFlex Incorporated, a Kansas City based polyurea formulator. As part of the seven figure deal, Doug took an ownership stake in the business and led the company’s brand and strategic management toward an eventual sale to Southwest Capital and then to PPG, a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, and specialty materials. Much of the company’s brand position and marketing assets Doug developed are still in use today. 

In 2015 Doug and his partner Ted Medford launched Profoam Corporation. Profoam is a leading supplier of spray foam insulation, equipment, and training in North America. Under Doug’s marketing leadership, Profoam saw extremely rapid growth and is now approaching over $50 million in annual sales.

In 2023, Doug took an ownership interest in Georgia Insulation along with Ted Medford. Through strategic marketing and acquisition they have grown the insulation services business to over $7 million in annual sales.

Doug was also approached by James Estes to lead his ThermoBlock ICF product into a global brand of unique polyurethane foam insulated concrete forms. Doug is an active shareholder and manager of this El Paso, TX building supplies company.

Doug is also a co-owner of Synergy SprayFoam and HVAC, Inc., a spray foam and HVAC installation company based in South Carolina. Upon joining, Doug swiftly revamped Synergy’s website and lead generation advertising strategies. As a result, the company has experienced a significant surge in sales growth and has realized substantial cost savings through the implementation of online estimate bookings and other digital efficiencies.

Doug's innovative spirit further shines through several other internet ventures such as and groundbreaking initiatives aimed at empowering SPF contractors and suppliers. These platforms provide improved search engine performance, streamlined sales lead management, and new business opportunities.
